Salon Business Goal Setting Challenge Prt 1

Raise your hands if you've set goals in the past, only to blink & another year went by? Imagine if you had smaller actions that take 5-30 minutes in length to help you achieve your goals? Sounds pretty doable right?

Did you know a simple action such as writing your goal out has proven to improve your chances of completing by 20%?

So, we are going to do just that, write out our goals so we can start to turn that virtual dream into a reality.

Start with 3 Big Goals

  1. More than three larger goals is overwhelming & can add some serious pressure. Write each goal on a separate paper, placing your large goal in the center, then circling it. Branch out quarterly sub-goals in bold, then add monthly, and weekly to follow.

  2. Start to create lists associated with each goal; what it might look like, why you're wanting to achieve it, and how it would make you feel. Don’t overthink this part, write out some of the first word that comes to mind.

  3. Now it’s time to get crafty. Get a poster board, magazines, and a glue-stick for a collage night associated with your goals. I personally prefer to use images only rather than words as they have a deeper connection & add a personalized touch to our boards.

Then Organize

Once you have your big goals laid out, and your sub-goals associated, start to fill in details working from the large to the small, assigning a date for each goal. Don't forget to allow for breathing room, or creativity gaps just in case you run into some hiccups.

  1. Schedule a day this month to organize a space you enjoy. Getting your physical space in order will help you mentally prepare.

  2. List your favorite moments of 2021. Part of goal setting is celebrating the parts you enjoy. This is a fun exercise because you can learn so much about yourself, plus it’s a great way to refresh.

  3. List two 2021 lessons. Lessons can range from discovering you’re a morning person after evaluating what you complete in the morning vs afternoons. It can also be as big as starting a small business and discovering the amount of time dedication you may have decided doesn’t align with you. The point in this exercise is to condition our brains to not look at growth as failure, but helping us learn what aligns better with us.

  4. Create 9 folders separated by business, friends/family. events; 3 files for each topic. This can be tangible folders or filed on our devices. Use what works best for you.

  5. Choose 30 minutes to organize the day. Morning of for early birds or visit the night before for night owls. This time gives us tangible bite sized tasks to focus our attention on as we move the needle forward.

  6. Block dates off next year. Choose some for leisure, hobbies, self-care, new skill, or passion project as well to keep those fresh ideas flowing.

As we continue on this goal setting journey, I think it’s important to say that everyone has a difference pace, and there is no right or wrong. As long as you’re working toward a goal you’d like to achieve, you’re already in a space of movement which leads to results.
