Being Vulnerable as a Leader in your Salon
Vulnerability as a hairstylist or salon owner may not come easily for all salon environments. BUT…what if I told you it will not only make you a stronger leader, but connect on a deeper level.
Starting out with Empathy. It’s hard to be a strong leader without empathy, and vulnerability allows us to access the relatable parts of ourselves.
Being vulnerable also builds Trust. When we let down our walls and take the time to be present and relate with a client, one on one, we give them permission to do the same. Being vulnerable with our client gives them the safe space to do the same in return, which builds a trust like no other!
Innovation. Having this trust and safe space with others allows innovation and creativity to run wild! When every team member feels heard and safe, ideas are easily formed and even more easily communicated and shared.
When we’re in an exposed situation that feels uncomfortable, we come up with Creative alternative solutions.
5. Inclusivity creates engagement and a sense of belonging. When we feel included, it creates a space of authenticity. Connecting deeper with a person and sharing a safe space to communicate , makes everyone feel included and part of the team.
6. Having vulnerability also humanizes leaders and helps both parties to have a mutual understanding of one another as people which can aid in hard conversations. We both understand one another and trust one another, so hard conversations become less about who is right or wrong and more about the picture as a whole.
7. We become more open to receiving constructive feedback because a mutual respect has been made through showing vulnerability.
8. Problem-Solving. We are more likely to have more heads willing to problem solve together because they all feel a part of the team and share similar “whys”.
